The Islamic Conquest of Syria

The Islamic Conquest of Syria is the first complete English translation of Futuhusham, the ninth century Arabic classic detailing the Muslim advance into Syria. This inspiring epic describes the events in detail and brings many personalities of Islam to life. The strategies of Khalid bin al-Walid, the piety of Abu Ubaydah al-Jarrah, the bravery of Dirar al-Kindi and many more are vividly described. The events which are briefly touched upon by many historians are mentioned here in detail such as Battle of Yarmuk which in many ways has changed the course of history.

Al-Imam al-Waqidi is a great historian who was born in 130AH in Madina. He completed his early studies in Madina and in 180AH he migrated to Iraq during the reign of Mamun ar-Rashid. He was later appointed as a judge and continued this role until his death in 207AH.
